Dan Nigro joined the FDNY in 1969 and was a Deputy Chief in 2001. During the rescue efforts after 9/11, FDNY Chief Peter J. Ganci, Jr., unfortunately perished and Nigro was appointed Chief of Operations at the FDNY. He retired from the position in 2002. Dan later rose to commissioner of the FDNY at the City of New York. He retired from the FDNY in 2022.
